As a 3rd generation farmer, founder Ben Setzler has been around cattle since he was just a baby, and that has developed into a passion for raising high quality animals. The impetus for selling his own beef came much later. At first it was an interest in forage raised cattle. Ben wanted to combine grasses, forbes, and legumes into a system that would keep a cow growing and healthy year round. The more he researched ideal combinations and species, the more he learned about how they affected the meat of the animal. Then came his epiphany: there were so many plants, cattle breeds, and other factors that influenced the flavor and texture of the resulting beef, the terroir if you will, and consumers had easy access to... only one. Ben's goal changed from raising quality meat on a forage based diet to a mission for people to experience all of the different possibilities that we could achieve through carefully crafted beef. Now, Ben runs an "experimental farm" where he gets to implement regenerative agriculture practices, try different breeds, plant different plants, and constantly see what he can brew up next.
