About HiFe Plants
We’re developing plant-based, high-iron products derived from biofortified crops to help address iron deficiency globally. Our vision is to fortify the future with nutritious options like fresh salad leaves, leaf powder for use in drinks or veggie burgers, and concentrated iron supplements in capsule form. Our research shows that the iron from these biofortified crops is bioavailable and free from the negative side effects commonly associated with traditional iron supplements, such as iron sulfate tablets. Iron deficiency is a widespread health issue, particularly among infants and women, and is a key focus of the WHO. With the rise in plant-based diets, there's growing concern over insufficient iron and vitamin B12 intake. While current iron supplements are inexpensive, they often have poor bioavailability and cause unwanted side effects. Our solution offers a natural, effective alternative that supports those with iron deficiency, improving their health and quality of life. Iron deficiency is a global health problem for infants and women, and a key target for the WHO. In addition, with a growing advocacy for plant-based diets, there is a risk of insufficient intake of vitamin B12 and iron. While current iron supplements are cheap, they often have negative side effects. Our solution is to provide plant-derived alternatives for iron deficient people that increases their quality of life.
