Prepare: “they will come. don’t be caught unaware” Protect yourself, your practice, courtroom, organization, small business, school, or anywhere, and avoid costly legal battles, complaints, and the chaos that high-conflict people create by being prepared in advance. Identify: “they are here. mitigate potential pitfalls before it’s too late.” People with high-conflict personalities are surprisingly predictable once you know the warning signs. Save yourself time, a lot of drama, and money by identifying potential high-conflict situations through early identification. Manage: “they are staying. help clients avoid negative outcomes” Confidence increases, lawsuits are averted and your life will be calmer once you learn to do the opposite of what you do with everyone else. It starts by adjusting your expectations and learning new techniques. “Since I had been a therapist before becoming a lawyer, I knew about personality disorders, how confusing they were, how persuasive they could be, and some of the methods for treating them. Yet no one outside of psychiatric treatment seemed to have a clue about their behavior – and often reacted in ways that made things worse.
