About Hip Hop is Green
The corporation’s purpose is to provide arts, cultural educational curriculum, and health and wellness education, and to actively conserve open spaces and promote natural resource stewardship, empowering community leadership and the conservation of the sacred biosphere. We center our programming around these six pillars: 1.Plant Based Eating: We teach the importance of plant-based eating for our health and for the environment. We share how to cook and prepare plant-based recipes; where food comes from; how it is processed, marketed and distributed into their community. 2,Organic Gardening: The Cherry Street Farm and Lab is key to fulfilling Hip Hop is Green's mission of creating healthy communities by promoting plant-based, culturally relevant eating and teaching Black, Indigenous, and other youth of color (BIPOC) ages 12 to 24 traditional organic and innovative hydroponic farming methods and reconnecting them to a long tradition of BIPOC farmers. 3.Fitness: The goal is to get the community involved with fitness and knowledgeable about their body and how it works. 4,Sobriety-Mental Health: We wish to promote sobriety in hip hop culture and plan on developing a program to reach out to those suffering from drugs and alcohol. 5.Environmental Justice: clean air and water. The protection of forest, the soil, the land and animals and the planet we live on is the number one priority for us. 6.Animal Rights Activism: We want to encourage youth and families to care about animal rights. Gandhi once said “The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated.” We institute these pillars through our Youth Excellence Program, our Direct Action Events, our Green Dinners, and programming at our Cherry Street Farm.
