About HIR studio

Established at the beginning of 2017, HIR Studio is a fresh, Hong Kong architectural duo with a passion to create unique and inspiring architecture, spatial design and public installation. Howard and Irene aspire to create visionary designs which, at whatever project scale, inherit their virtues in creating innovative, artistic and sensual design, and exploring the public realm with local flavors and characters. We were one of the selected exhibitors for the 2011-12 HK/SZ Bi-City Biennale of Urbanism \ Architecture. In 2014. Other notable projects include the RIBA Hong Kong Chapter SHOP! 2014 public installation, the Curious Horns. The installation received numerous awards including the Reddot Design Award 2014, Design for Asia Award 2015 and finalist in the UK Blueprint Award 2014. Prior to our independent practices principals Howard Chung and Irene Cheng are experienced architects with strong background in large scale commercial, residential and infrastructure buildings, from planning and design to construction. Some of the notable projects they have delivered include the West Kowloon Cultural District Masterplan, the Kai Tak Cruise Terminal, Vietin Bank, Copenhagen Towers, and the Hong Kong International Airport Midfield Concourse. The experiences from international practices have instilled them with valuable knowledges and design skills that become a nurturing ground for the young practice to grow.
