About HKU Legal Advice Programme

LEAP is a student initiative operating under the HKU Social Service Fund and is recognised and supported by the Law Faculty of The University of Hong Kong. We aim to bring together law firms and law students to provide pro bono legal services to the community. Under LEAP, HKU law students are attached to law firms as pro bono work experience students for a semester or a year to take part in pro bono projects undertaken by the firms. We also organize pro bono seminars with PILnet Hong Kong to educate HKU law students on different pro bono issues. LEAP has been collaborating with both international firms (Ashurst, Dentons, King & Wood Mallesons, Dorsey & Whitney) as well as to local firms (B.Mak & Co, Christine M. Koo & Ip, Solicitors and Notaries, Fongs, JC Legal, Kenneth Lam, Solicitors) in the past year. We also have the support from HKU Law Faculty, Professor Eric Cheung (Director of Clinical Legal Education in HKU Law Faculty), Lindsay Ernst (HKU Lecturer in Human Rights Experiential Learning) and PILnet Hong Kong (a non-profit organization which provides free-of-charge matchmaking services to secure pro bono assistance for NGOs).
