About HKU School of English

Welcome to the School of English. Established in the Faculty of Arts as one of the founding faculties of the University of Hong Kong, the School of English engages in research and provides instruction at undergraduate and postgraduate levels in global Anglophone literary and cultural studies, English linguistics, and Language and Communication, and is actively involved in knowledge exchange. Our School offers the English Studies programme as a major and minor to students in their second year and above. Our English Studies programme has a strong cross-cultural orientation, recognizing English as a language of global communication and world literature, a language which people make their own, creatively and habitually, all over the world. It offers students both a solid foundation and a wide range of choices in various concentrations. The School also collaborates with other Faculties in offering two double degree programmes: the BA&BEd in Language Education (English) and the BA&LLB.
