About Hockey Belgium

Hockey Belgium is the governing body of field hockey in Belgium. It consists of 110 clubs located all over the country, representing 60.000 members. Those are almost equally divided between women and men and between the North and the South part of the country. Beginning of 2020 the Red Lions – the national men’s team – is ranked number 1 in the world and is the current World and European Champion and the Olympic silver medalist in Rio 2016. At the women’s side, the Red Panthers are 11th in the world ranking. The last 10 years, hockey in Belgium has known an impressive growth, doubling the number of members between 2010 and 2020. This growth can of course partly be attributed to the success of the national hockey teams. But the core values of the sport undoubtedly also play an important role. The values of respect, fair-play, tolerance and team spirit conveyed by hockey, make it an attractive family sport. And the fact that Hockey Belgium has built a proven track record in the organization of world class hockey events (European Championship in 2013 and 2019, European Indoor Championship in 2018, World League 2016 & 2018, Hockey Pro League 2019 & 2020) is a third explanation for the Belgian hockey success story.
