About Holocaust Education Center of Orange County
As Orange County's only Holocaust museum, the Holocaust Education Center of OC has become a beacon of light in the recent rise in Holocaust denial and antisemitism. The museum has become a space of enlightenment, education, and empathy as we have made it our mission to combat and promote tolerance and acceptance, one mind and soul at a time. During our 90 minute docent-led immersive tour, we have seen countless lives changed, particularly the thousands of middle and high schools students who have passed through our doors. Our field trip and public tours are dynamically designed to tell the local stories of the Holocaust through the eyes of survivor, Mel Mermelstein. The exhibit showcases over 700 concentration camp artifacts that were meaningfully assembled into art by Mermelstein to process the loss of his family and trauma. The exhibit allows visitors to touch artifacts and to engage in thoughtful conversation which leaves them with a call to action. Holocaust education has shown to directly lower the rate of incidences of bullying and hate crimes, which our center is helping combat through our immersive storytelling. As we embark to turn Orange County into a better and brighter place, we encourage every middle and high school student, in addition to every member of the community, to visit our center for essential tolerance education and to first-hand see the testament of the human spirit.
