About Holocaust Legacy Foundation
Founded in 2019, the Holocaust Legacy Foundation (HLF) was established to preserve and perpetuate the memory and lessons of the Holocaust for future generations. In April of 2022, HLF purchased a building on Tremont Street on Boston’s historic Freedom Trail to be converted into Boston’s first Holocaust museum and educational center. The mission of the Holocaust Museum Boston is to apply the history and lessons of the Holocaust to building a more informed society committed to confronting antisemitism and all forms of bigotry and hate. The Museum will draw upon the lessons of the Holocaust to teach principles of national and global citizenship to people of all ages and backgrounds. A key audience for the Museum will be middle and high school students. Amid rising acts of antisemitism, hate and intolerance, and with prejudice continuing to marginalize so many in our society, this work is essential. The new Museum will tell the story of the Holocaust utilizing different exhibition and media methodologies as well as through the testimonies of survivors, conveying their observations about the challenges in today’s world through the lens of their unique experiences. It will also tell stories which relate to the principles and experiences it is trying to convey. As an emotional and educational experience, the museum seeks to encourage an engaged citizenry committed to civic responsibility, open dialogue, and to understanding the importance of a broad based and stable pluralistic democracy in confronting antisemitism and all forms of bigotry. The Museum building design and visitor experience are under development, with a projected opening date of late 2026.
