About Home Horizon | Barbara Weider House
Our mission is to transform the lives of youth at risk of homelessness by providing them with the opportunity to rebuild their lives and achieve their full potential. These youth are in the process of transitioning into adulthood, and due to challenging circumstances, may not yet have acquired the health, personal, social, and life skills that make independent living possible. We offer access to counselling and programs to help these youth successfully rebuild their lives and transition to independent living and adulthood. Our support programs help them learn life skills, create positive relationships with peers and adults, and re-engage with school, employment training, and/or employment. While we are not an emergency shelter, we do collaborate with service partners within the community to prioritize the safety of youth in our community. Housing crises can happen at any time and through proper referrals and assessments, we can offer the appropriate course of action, connecting youth with emergency sheltering services and an array of other social services. The Your S.A.F.E. (Specialized Access for Everyone) is a specialized service offered by Home Horizon that allows us to reach out to vulnerable youth, both in person and digitally and make sure that youth get connected to the services that they need.
