About Home-Start Kirklees

Home-Start Kirklees are a volunteer led organisation committed to promoting the welfare of children. For the last 25 years, we have been offering practical and emotional support to families in Kirklees with at least 1 child aged under 5. Our home support volunteers work with families facing everyday life challenges in a wide range of areas. We recognise the challenge of trying to raise children in a safe and nurturing environment whilst dealing with stresses such as ill health, financial difficulties, disrupted relationships, insecure housing, isolation, trauma abuse and loss. Home-Start Kirklees is a unique local service, intervening early with vulnerable families helping them organise their lives and make better-informed decisions about the health and well-being of the whole family. Supervised by a professional staff team, our trained and experienced volunteers are role models for parents, helping them develop good routines, encouraging them to interact positively with their children and to build support networks in the community. The emotional wellbeing and physical health of children is at the heart of everything we do - to ensure they have the best possible start in life, despite the debilitating effects of poverty and disadvantage. We take a holistic approach to the inter-connected challenges that prevent children from thriving, providing the emotional and practical support parents need to build a safe, nurturing and stimulating home for their children.
