About Home Start

Founded in 1972 in San Diego, California, Home Start is a 501 (c)(3) organization that provides services to children living in poverty who require comprehensive solutions to ensure their safety and healthy development. Our mission has always been dedicated to child abuse prevention and family strengthening services. Last year, we served over 80,000 San Diegans in need of our programs! To effectively prevent and treat child abuse, Home Start addresses the conditions that put children in at risk situations - poverty, unsafe neighborhoods, lack of affordable housing, and unemployment concurrently with addressing individual self sufficiency and emotional needs. Our compassionate staff stabilize crisis situations, counsel to resolve immediate problems, and provide long term therapy to address the underlying cause of the abusive situation. Our comprehensive approach of strengthening families, communities, and the systems that protect our children makes Home Start unique to San Diego!
