About Homebreakin Records
Homebreakin Records was founded in 2006 with the intention of releasing only the finest in new dance-floor grooves. Heavily influenced by late 70′s to early 80′s dance records that saw disco, funk, house, and hip-hop all smashing together in brilliant experimentation. The two founders, Cal Bass and Matt Dauncey (Neighbour), set out to find similar sounds amongst the new wave of post-rave dance production. Fostered by a wildly supportive western Canadian festival circuit (Shambhala, Soundwave), and plenty of love from DC’s Funkweapons label, UK’s Juno Records, and from taste-makers TurntableLab and XLR8R, the label garnered international attention for its timeless sensibilities and firm commitment to releasing dance-floor-ready 12 inches oozing with musicality and live instrumentation. A distribution deal with California’s IODA allowed Homebreakin to transition from a physical-only label to a hybrid physical-digital model. The label’s back catalog surfed the top 10 overall on Junodownload for more than 2 months, and each subsequent release has cracked the top 5 since. Now, four years deep into the label experience, the company has launched Homebreakin Records Group including: Punch Out! Recordings & BigFoot.
