About Homeless & Housing Coalition of Kentucky
The mission of HHCK is to work together to eliminate the threat of homelessness and fulfill the promise of affordable housing for all Kentuckians. We are proud to be working since 1987 to increase opportunities for decent, safe, and affordable housing across the state. As the only statewide advocacy organization for issues of homelessness and affordable housing in Kentucky, we take the responsibility of educating state legislators and advocating for more affordable housing in Kentucky very seriously. In addition, we administer a statewide AmeriCorps program called Homes for All Corps and supportive housing voucher programs for the homeless. We are also responsible for the administration of the Kentucky Interagency Council on Homelessness. HHCK believes that all people have a right to adequate food and shelter, employment, social services , and health care. We believe that our society has a responsibility to provide for these basic needs. Our purpose is to: 1) Educate all citizens of Kentucky about homelessness; 2) Advocate for more and better emergency, transitional, and permanent housing; 3)Work to overcome the root causes of homelessness by advocating for an increased supply of affordable housing, employment that provides livable wages, a social welfare policy that enhances self-sufficiency, and access to health care; and 4) Participate in the political and economic processes of our state on behalf of and in cooperation with homeless and low-income persons in order to promote plans and policies which encourage self-sufficiency and dignity. Please become a member of HHCK, either as an organization or an individual. We welcome input and ideas from all of our members as we embark on the challenge that our board of directors charted during HHCK’s early days – to eliminate homelessness and fulfill the promise of affordable housing for all Kentuckians.
