My name is Dr. Christie Agawu. I am a mother, former Princeton University professor, and above all, I care about two things: first bringing 100% all-natural skin moisturizing and rejuvenating shea butter to my customers, and advocating for those who cannot do so for themselves. Homemade Shea is a social enterprise that is focused on providing high-quality, ultra-soft, 100% organic shea butter to those who want to make a difference in their skin/hair routine, and in the lives of others. Being from Ghana myself, I started Homemade Shea as a matter of social justice. Every year, the Gnani camp in northern Ghana grows with more and more people who have fled there for safety. In Ghana, many women are accused and scapegoated as "witches", and are forced to leave their homes behind with little resources or financial stability to live the full lives they deserve. Homemade Shea is committed to providing these women with new homes and financial security as we continue to grow, and we aim to amplify their voices to receive the treatment every human deserves.
