About Homies Helping Homies

Homies Helping Homies rose out of necessity – providing medical supplies to organizers marching for Black lives in response to the unjust murder of George Floyd. We have since flourished into a catalyst for community giving and abundance, increasing avenues for donations – improving food and household item access for low income people of color. Three Mondays a month, we distribute food, diapers, and PPE at our Cross Street Table Distributions. As our efforts expand, we seek to become a functioning piece of Philadelphia offering holistic services extending beyond item distributional efforts. We began hosting our community photo days after a string of successful events throughout August 2022 in collaboration with gravy studio. After taking family photos at Northern Liberties Recreation Center, and comprehensive photos at Bartram's Garden, we received feedback from community members expressing their desires for it to be a recurring event. On January 15th, we began hosting our Community Photo Days at Babytooth, serving local entrepreneurs, actors, families, and everyone else interested in capturing a piece of themselves and their place in history. We look forward to obtaining a walk-in fridge, a second location that will act as a community space/venue, and producing a 10-week course on photography and zine-making.
