About Honeybee Discovery Center
The tiny world of honeybees goes by every day virtually unnoticed and most often, unexplained. These tiny creatures are responsible for one out of every three bites you eat. The honeybees are in jeopardy, and they need your help. The Honeybee Discovery Center’s mission is to teach people about honeybees and other pollinators and the vital they play in our food supply and feeding the world. It is a place to discover the science and art of beekeeping, for bee education and research and role every person can play to save the bees. Once constructed, it will be the only Bee Museum in the United States. Currently, the Honeybee Discovery Center is in a temporary facility in the Queen Bee Capital of North America, Orland CA. 80 percent of all queens are cultivated in this rural area of Northern California. Honeybees are…. • Essential to agriculture. • Vital for the preservation of ecological balance and biodiversity in nature. • The only insects that produce a food that is consumed by humans. • Vanishing at nearly 40 percent per year. About the building – sustainability keywords “We need the bees. And the bees need our help.” Carolina Burreson, Beekeeper This is why a group of retired educators who understand the need stepped up and took action to Save the Honeybees and preserve the history of Beekeeping in North America. They are doing it the only way they know now, by teaching as many people as possible about the role of honeybees and other pollinators. Our journey isn’t complete without your help, your contribution, your knowledge about bees and our shared desire to preserve the art of beekeeping and ensure that honeybees live on.
