Honor for Heroes Founder Matthew Hilley had a great uncle in the Army’s famed 10th Mountain Division, First Sergeant James Hilley. James was MIA/KIA in WWII when the amphibious vehicle (DUKW) that he was on sank to the bottom of Lake Garda in Italy and all 25 soldiers onboard died. Their remains have never made it home! Working towards this recovery effort inspired Matthew to start an organization that would provide Recognition, Support, and Memorialization for ALL of our Heroes in order to inspire a whole new generation of Heroes while Honoring the ones from our past and present! The obvious Heroes like the military, firefighters, police, and EMS are definitely a focus of H4H. However, H4H also includes other less celebrated Heroes. They range from the everyday Hero that springs into action when needed, to the often-overlooked Hero that does great things behind the scenes and is out of the spotlight. We have tackled projects as small as getting a pot hole repaired at the entrance to a SC National Guard Unit. We have also worked on projects as large as trying to get the government to recover the remains of 25 dead soldiers 4600 miles away! * We recently partnered with another nonprofit and took ownership of the Come Dream with Me Prom. * We are fighting to get Veteran Status for all of our Veterans that have served honorably. * We retire old American Flags. * We Memorialize our Heroes through naming's, dedications, and monuments, * We volunteer out time and services to other nonprofits. * We promote, assist with and facilitate the implementation of policies, events, services, and products that help Veterans, First Responders, and Heroes while fulfilling our mission statement. * We educate and inform the public of the importance of Honoring our Heroes and the benefits of doing so. * We are an advocate and supporting partner for our Hero-class.
