About Hope and Health
Hope and Health began in 2011, with the desire to bring together Indigenous communities in a positive, educational, and inspirational way. Through feedback from the community, we learned that too often the community was brought together through tragedy or injustice. In partnership with Kw’umut Lelum and the Whitecaps FC, we launched our inaugural community camp event in Nanaimo, BC. Due to the incredible levels of community engagement, we were able to expand this event across the Salish Sea to add a second community camp for Indigenous children and youth. With our values and goals in mind, in 2017, we launched Hope and Health at Home "H3". Through our wonderful community partner's Indigenous children and youth are able to participate and learn from our 16 modules, which themes and skill building focus on life, leadership, and social development. This multi-week program gives the opportunity for participants to engage the power of sport in a holistic, educational, and play centred way - to empower their inner Champions for Life. The COVID-19 Global Pandemic compelled us to continue our growth in a whole new direction. With the onset of the pandemic, our H3 programming shifted to become Hope and Health at Home Online "H3O", a virtual programming that engaged Indigenous children, youth, and their families across British Columbia and even Canada. This learning lead to a development in organizational strategy, that continues to accelerate our impact and reach. Although, our programming was developed as soccer based, we have since grown to include lacrosse and have hopes to continue this expansion through others sports and various physical activities.
