About Hope at Home

At Hope at Home, we believe that no survivor of modern slavery should ever have to sleep on the streets. We train and support volunteer hosts to welcome a survivor into their homes, preventing homelessness and re-trafficking. We believe that everyone deserves the chance to find a hope and a future. -- Modern slavery is the serious exploitation of individuals for gain: whether that's commercial gain or personal gain. Exploitation can include forced labour (exploited at or forced to work, often for no or low pay and under threat), sexual exploitation, domestic servitude (where victims are forced to work in private homes) and criminal exploitation (where victims are forced into criminal activity that others are profiting from). Many victims are trafficked from other countries or areas in the UK. Often, our survivors are in a state of limbo: they are waiting for Home Office decisions, waiting for the outcome of police investigations, waiting for local authority housing. They face street homelessness, often have no access to public funds and nowhere safe to live. If made homeless, survivors are vulnerable to being re-trafficked and exploited. We match survivors with volunteer hosts who provide their spare room, facilities and support to give survivors the stability to rebuild their lives. We provide thorough, trauma-informed training to our hosts and have safeguarding processes and measures in place to protect both hosts and guests. Our careful matching process helps to match compatible guests and hosts, who often become great friends and keep in contact after our guest moves on into independent housing.
