About Hope in the Gale Therapeutic Healing
Life can be beautiful & fulfilling. It can also include experiences that cause us to lose hope. Our mission is to work with clients as they overcome those obstacles, strengthen hope & find the joy so critical to healing and happiness. Our team includes Dr. Jeni Groot, a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) & Joseph Upton, a Recovery Peer Specialist. Together, they work to provide individual & group mental health support, collaborate to curate tailored wellness services & consult on areas related to psychology, trauma & recovery. Jeni embraces a holistic approach to therapy. She has specific experience in many therapeutic methods. Most importantly, though, she is grounded in a person-centered philosophy that recognizes the client as the expert in their life & seeks to empower them to make positive changes & find joy. Jeni sees a wide variety of clients but her professional experience has prepared her particularly well to work with youth & trauma survivors. She holds AA Degrees from the CCAF in both Explosive Ordnance Disposal & Criminal Justice, a BS in Behavioral Science, a MA in Counseling & a PhD in International Psychology with an emphasis in Trauma Services. Joe’s experience as a combat veteran has uniquely prepared him to assist individuals who may feel alone in struggles to which most people cannot relate. Joe retired from the US Air Force after 25 years as an Explosive Ordnance Disposal Technician. That time included nine combat deployments & Joe was awarded two Bronze Stars & two Purple Hearts associated with that service. Joe’s extensive combat experience led to his selection for a special assignment as a Peer Support Specialist at the US Air Force Deployment Transition Center. There he coordinated support for active-duty personnel returning from combat zones and provided critical peer counseling. Joe holds an AA Degree in Explosive Ordnance Disposal from the CCAFa BS in Emergency Management, and a Certificate in Recovery Peer Support.
