About Hospes Infante Sagres Porto
A Heritage of Luxury More than just a luxury hotel, Hospes Infante Sagres Porto is an institution. Porto's most prestigious city centre address, it has been a meeting place for the city’s élite and the residence of choice for discerning travellers and international celebrities for more than six decades, renowned for its stylish ambience, personalized service and unique blend of timeless elegance and contemporary sophistication. This legendary grande dame of Portuguese hotels reopens its doors in 2018 after extensive renovation. A team of leading designers and master craftsmen has transformed its graceful heritage interior, elevating it to an unprecedented level of refinement, meticulously restoring its wealth of ornate detail while adding a dash of new world flair and glamour. The Infante Sagres opened in 1951. The vision of its creator, the entrepreneur and philanthropist Delfim Ferreira, was to endow the city with a luxury hotel on a par with the finest in Europe. Housed in a listed building, it contains a wealth of decorative features, such as exquisite ironwork, carved wood detail and magnificent stained glass panels from the workshop of Ricardo Leone. The hotel is named after Prince Henry the Navigator, initiator of the Age of Discovery and the early Portuguese voyages of exploration. Also known as the Prince, or Infante, of Sagres, after the town where he established his school of navigation, he was born in Porto in 1394 to King John I of Portugal and Philippa of Lancaster, sister of Henry IV of England.
