Das 1805 gegründete Universitätsklinikum Tübingen (UKT) gehört zu den führenden Zentren der deutschen Hochschulmedizin und trägt mit seinen 17 Universitätskliniken, den Instituten und Zentren zum erfolgreichen Verbund aus Hochleistungsmedizin, Forschung und Lehre bei. Seit Januar 1998 ist das Universitätsklinikum Tübingen eine selbständige Anstalt des öffentlichen Rechts mit Vorstand und Aufsichtsrat. Als Haus der Maximalversorgung ist das UKT weit über die Region hinaus bekannt. Rund 75.000 stationäre und ca. 380.000 ambulante Patienten werden jährlich behandelt. Laut der regelmäßig durchgeführten Patientenbefragung würden über 96 Prozent der stationären Patienten das Universitätsklinikum Tübingen weiterempfehlen.
