House of Amitié is a fresh and contemporary interiors brand launched in May 2023. Amitié ‘a mee tyay’ Feminine noun meaning friendship. House of Amitié is the creation of lifelong friends Jemma Lewis and Angela Bush. Their joint creative careers have led them towards the development of a collection of wallpapers and fabrics dedicated and inspired by the heritage craft of paper marbling. Paper marbling has been around for hundreds of years, in fact it dates all the way back to 12th century Japan in the art form known as ‘Suminagashi’ which translates to ‘floating ink’. How we marble today is not too different to how marbled papers were created centuries ago. Paints are floated onto a thick and viscous ‘size’ which is derived from an Irish Seaweed and the paints can be magically swirled and manipulated into endless patterns before being transferred to a sheet of paper. Long associated with the insides of antique books, marbling is finally being expressed as a design resource in its own right and here at House of Amitié our vision is to bring these wonderful designs to life in your own homes. As advocates of sustainability, House of Amitié responsibly source our products, using natural fabrics produced in Europe and an Eco Non-Woven Substrate used for selected wallpaper designs. Our other Mica Coated Non-Woven Wallpapers are partially made from recycled plastic bottles. At House of Amitié we strongly believe in supporting British manufacturing, with a commitment to print all of our products in the UK, using digital printing for all of our designs. Being an eco friendly print option, this consumes less energy and water than other more traditional print methods.
