About Houston Theater District
The Theater District is the premier cultural and entertainment center in Houston, comprising eight world-renowned performing arts organizations in four stunning venues—Jones Hall, Wortham Theater Center, Alley Theater and Hobby Center for the Performing Arts. Theater District Houston promotes the arts and culture organizations, performance venues, events, individuals, and businesses within the geographic area defined as Houston’s Theater District. Houston is one of only five cities in the United States that boasts permanent, professional resident companies in all of the major performing arts disciplines. Houston’s Theater District spans 17 blocks, and its four flagship theaters house 13,000 seats. Theater District Houston is the cultural district that works with the resident companies, venues and business owners and serves as their advocate on the city and state level. The Theater District is one of seven cultural districts in Houston, as designated by the Texas Commission on the Arts. Cultural districts are special zones that harness the power of cultural resources to stimulate economic development and community revitalization. These districts can become focal points for generating businesses, attracting tourists, stimulating cultural development and fostering civic pride. MISSION Theater District Houston advocates for, partners with, and promotes the downtown cultural district by raising the profile and resources to celebrate the arts.
