About HPU Toccatatones
The Toccatatones was founded in 2001 to honor the memory of Todd Owen Carter and his vision for an all-male a cappella group at High Point University. In his college years, Todd sang with the Clef Hangers at UNC Chapel Hill. He came to High Point in 1998 and was the director of the University Singers and Choirs. It was his dream to have an all-male a cappella group at High Point, but he died of Hodgkin’s disease in June of 2001, before he could see the group come to fruition. The name “TOCcatatones” stems from the initials of Todd’s name and honors his lasting legacy.
