About Humanitarian Bazaar
Humanitarian Bazaar (originally known by our first project, HELO Magazine), produces creative projects focused on how people survive war and disaster. Our work has already been covered by the BBC, CNN, VICE, WNYC, The Guardian, Aljazeera, Rolling Stone, The New Yorker, The Atlantic, Somali, Kenyan, Bosnian, and Afghan local media. Our partners have included the UN Development Programme, US Department of State, Adeso Africa, Elman Peace, the Danish Refugee Council, SyriaUntold, Tabesh NGO, Combat Comms, Sound Central, Fair Planet, and Waayaha Cusub. Our team members have also provided support to CLEAR Global / Translators Without Borders (Ukraine and region), the Academy of Disaster Management (Germany), Edet Belzberg's film "Watchers of the Sky," Monzer Darwish's film "Syrian Metal is War," highlights in Travis Beard's film "Rockabul," and much more. We had the honor of working with global music-for-peace icons including K'naan, Desiigner, The Dresden Dolls, Toni Blackman, Kabul Dreams, Alsarah, and many more. HB also co-produced the historic Mogadishu Music Festival (Somalia), Somali Sunrise Concert Tour for Peace (Somalia, Kenya, Netherlands, UK, US), and the Journey of Peace Dadaab (Kenya); as well as worked with Combat Comms on Afghanistan's first rock festival, Sound Central. Beyond peace and music festivals, we have also provided humanitarian and human rights consulting, training, and support to organizations including media production, humanitarian digital gateway development, counter-violence, counter-extremism, youth outreach, gender-based violence prevention, counseling, and legal aid, and more. Founded as an arts community and online magazine in New York in 2009, we have survived nearly fifteen years operating more like an arts community and documentary production company than a formal INGO, supporting local peace advocates and humanitarians in tough parts of the world.
