Since 1945, the Hungarian Scout Federation Abroad has served Hungarian youth living outside the Carpathian Basin. Its headquarters is in New Jersey, USA, and it consists of five districts: I. Europe, II. South America, III. USA and Venezuela, IV. Australia, and V. Canada. KMCSSZ has nearly 3,000 members in 66 troops across 14 countries. Further information about the 80-year history of KMCSSZ can be found on our website. The organization has its roots in the postwar refugee camps of West Germany in 1948. As these refugees eventually started new lives and families on different continents, the scouting network continued to grow. It now encompasses 75 troops in 14 different countries. Run entirely by volunteers, the organization emphasizes leadership training at all levels: from patrol leaders (14 years and up) through scoutmasters. The Hungarian Scout Association in Exteris has provided countless scouts with lifelong friendships, leadership experience, public service and connections to their Hungarian heritage. Many troops also run or affiliate with "weekend schools," where parents and scout leaders volunteer their time to teach Hungarian language, history and culture for all age levels.
