Hygiene Solutions is a company that focuses on the area of infection control and has developed a simple, unique and cost effective system for sanitizing door handles. Our system addresses cross contamination from door handles, which is a fundamental link in the chain of infection and a serious hygiene problem throughout the entire world. For those who do wash or sanitize their hands correctly, the next problem is “how you keep them clean”. It is accepted in the hygiene industry that 80% of all germs are transmitted on hard surfaces such as hand rails, computer keyboards, lift buttons, phones and one of the biggest culprits of all, door handles. We have focused our attention on the door handle and developed a simple solution, which is now market ready and will keep most types of door handles safe to touch. Initially our market focus will be on the exit door handle of the public washroom but once established in this market we will widen our focus to target other high risk door handles. The systems works by atomizing a tiny spray of sanitizer onto the door handle each time the door is used and requires no batteries or power supply to operate. It is robust, easy to install and extremely cost effective and the clever design means that the sanitizing of the door handle becomes an involuntary action i.e. cannot be stopped. Our system uses the opening and closing motion of the door to trigger the automatic atomization of sanitizing fluid. The application of sanitizer is so small that the sanitizing goes unnoticed by the user and we believe, given the serious potential contamination risks associated with all door handles, especially toilet door handles, that the system will become a standard requirement for all doors in public toilets in the future and will eventually become common place on most door handles in the workplace, institutions and homes.
