Our device responds to the unmet need for a robust method to assess taste sensitivity. This will help doctors make reliable decisions in disease prevention, diagnosis and patient monitoring. Oncologists from AP-HP Salpetriere hospital, who observed taste’ loss in their patients, asked us to develop a taste measuring device. To date, taste measurement is time consuming, with very low accuracy and repeatability score, while being expensive and requiring lab analysis. We joined forces with doctors from AP-HP and researchers from CNRS to develop a one-of-a-kind device to ease this process for doctors to use in routine checks. Our tool, called an electrogustometer, measures taste in 2 minutes with high precision by detecting the smallest taste possible a person can detect, like a hearing test. Although electrogustometry has existed since 1960 and is a proven scientific method, never a device has come close to bringing the level of precision, reliability and easiness than ours. COVID highlighted taste disorder and its impact on health, but little are we to know that hundreds of drugs and diseases also affect taste, like tobacco, cancer treatments, diabetes and many more. By using cutting-edge technology in IoT medical devices and machine learning, this breakthrough innovation has the potential to revolutionize the healthcare sector by providing a new parameter to simplify the process of disease diagnosis & improve patient monitoring.
