About I Am and I Can

A Part of The Original 4 Kingz, Inc. Education Focus The I Am and I Can Foundation is a different approach in youth interactions for school students. The I am and I can Foundation is a group-motivational mentoring program led by men and women who’ve lived the same challenges as the students. The facilitators share their common experiences and insights teaching, leading, and sharing with the students. Group motivation mentoring enriches student’s lives; helps meet their needs for positive adult contact, and provides needed social interaction with peers. Positive motivation mentoring experiences have proven to be an effective tool to help youth overcome the risk factors that can lead to problems such as educational failure, dropping out of school, and involvement in gang crime and drug abuse. The I Am and I Can Curriculum is a mixture of intellectual, emotional and physical activities emphasizing openness, honesty, responsibility, trust, respect and collaboration (Co-op petition) as reflected in the Project Objectives: · Build self-esteem · Boost academic performance · Reinforce positive attitudes about school · Strengthen all social relationships · Emphasize connectivity and teamwork · Improve school attendance · Enhance ability to problem solve and resolve conflict · Increase Parental involvement · Create life-saving, life changing, behavioral shifts (young man made the choice not to stab classmate) = Personal Responsibility · Reduce Drop-out rate The program encourages the “gang” to reinforce positive messages that have been delivered in the bi- weekly sessions, by the Facilitator, during the time between visits. The I Am and I Can challenges each student to raise their own expectations and spurs them on to be the best they can be individually and collectively.
