About I Am Global Academy

I Am Global Academy empowers individuals who are impacted by social oppression—primarily those coming from human trafficking contexts—and prepares them for brighter futures through English education and one-on-one relationships. OUR HISTORY We were incubated in Cincinnati, Ohio in 2014 as a response to a request from local partners providing aftercare services in Kolkata, India. Founded by a group collaborative with Don Gerred, an attorney with the Kolkata Field Office of International Justice Mission (IJM), we saw the opportunity to help learners improve their English to build confidence and prepare for a successful future. No one does what we do for our students. We have the power to lift our students and tutors through our deep relationship-building and intentionally individualized learning approach, where tutors and students are encouraged to co-direct the lesson. While we teach fundamental skills like reading and vocabulary, our students learn in a more conversational environment. We not only build their English competence but also their confidence and character. We are creating a paradigm shift for these students where the focus is not about learning rote English, but about how to guide a conversation; how to share an opinion; and how to lead others with their voices and their choices.
