About IAWL ~ Institute for African Women in Law
The Institute for African Women in Law is a non-profit organization registered under US law. It is made up of a network of women legal professionals across Africa and the Diaspora dedicated to using the law as a tool for societal change and development. Our focal programmatic areas include Research, Advocacy, Technical Engagement, and Mentoring. We seek to improve and increase spaces within the legal professions for African women. Our innovative approach uses a cross-sectional approach by removing the silos of professional organizations and blending professional boundaries. Our network includes judges, lawyers, legal academics, and lawyers working in non-legal organizations such as in international diplomacy. Our collective actions are oriented towards having an intergenerational impact through intra-generational peer-mentoring and inter-generational cross-mentoring of young women and girls aspiring to become lawyers and the next generation of women champions for the continent of Africa. Our membership is open to women across Africa and the Black Diaspora. We welcome and highly encourage the participation of men who are committed to women's success. In pursuit of our vision, we have launched the campaign #AfricanGenderSolidarity to achieve our communal goals and aspirations as human beings. Join us and let us make a difference!
