About ICAI Rocket Team
Founded in 2019, we are a university association made up of more than 25 students passionate about the aerospace field and excited for the opportunity to contribute to the club and its development. After several years of inactivity, we’re thrilled to announce the re-establishment of the ICAI Rocket Team in 2024. We aim to build a strong, innovative community where students can gain hands-on experience in aerospace and engineering while working together to reach new heights in rocketry. The purpose of the club is to design and build a rocket with an onboard computer, telemetry, airbrakes, and a recovery system. Our main goal is to participate in the European Rocketry Challenge (EuRoC) in October 2025, a prestigious European competition that promotes innovation, teamwork, and resilience. Our challenge The European Rocketry Challenge (EuRoC) is the first rocket launch competition for European university teams. By promoting the European Rocketry Challenge, the Portuguese Space Agency wants to stimulate young people’s interest in STEM (Sciences, Technologies, Engineering and Mathematics). To stimulate synergies between academia and the aerospace industry that promote innovation and competitiveness in the sector, contributing to the creation of highly skilled jobs. Our team To tackle the complexities of rocketry, our team is organized into specialized departments: - Propulsion: Focuses on engine design, fuel development and thrust optimization. - Aerodynamics and Design: Ensures optimal rocket shape and stability, testing airframe designs for efficiency and safety. - Avionics: Develops the onboard electronics, sensors, and guidance systems that enable precision control and data collection. - Recovery: Engineers and tests systems for safe and reliable rocket recovery, preserving both data and hardware for reuse. - Business Strategy: Manages sponsorship outreach, budgeting, and public engagement, ensuring our team has resources and visibility.
