About ICIN - Interuniversity Cardiology Institute of the Netherlands

The ICIN is an alliance of the 8 university cardiology departments in the Netherlands. Together we stimulate, co-ordinate and execute scientific research in the field of cardiovascular diseases. In doing so we avoid duplication and waste of talent and money. The ICIN seeks the optimum platform for its research, including co-operation with non-academic hospitals, institutions of basic science, or fellow institutes of the Royal Academy. ICIN research projects are carried out in the participating cardiology centers or the laboratories of other partners in research. ICIN does not have research facilities of its own, but uses the infrastructure best fitted for the research projects at hand. For clinical studies patients are recruited in the participating hospitals. More basic studies are performed in the research laboratories of universities or research institutes. In this way it is possible to choose the best possible infrastructure for every project. ICIN research is organized around four themes: Vessel Wall, Myocardial Function, Cardiac Rhythm, and Developmental Biology of the Heart.
