About ICPA NT State Council

The Isolated Children’s Parents’ Association (ICPA ) is an Australia-wide, fully voluntary organisation of parents and carers, past and present, dedicated to ensuring all rural and remote students have equity of access to a continuing and appropriate education. Our focus encompasses the educational needs of all geographically isolated children from early childhood through to tertiary education. Rural and Remote students are educated via distance education, small rural and remote schools, boarding schools (interstate and within the NT) and early childhood services where available. Tertiary students are regarded as those who seek further education, whether through university degree, TAFE course, apprenticeships or traineeships. Many students from rural and remote families inevitably have to live away from home to access educational institutions to further the educational needs of their children, due to geographical isolation of their home. There are three ICPA branches across the territory; Alice Springs, Katherine and Territory Wide (Lones). We have over 100 member families and represent approximately 300 rural and remote students. Our members’ families reside on cattle stations, indigenous communities, wayside inns/road houses, small townships, islands, boats and are transient due to the nature of their work. ICPA NT State Council advocates to the NT State Government and stakeholders on members’ concerns which are democratically determined by motions debated and resolved at annual conference and AGM.
