About IFE
The Institute for Field Education is a European not-for-profit institute founded to provide useful international training through language-based programs of experiential learning and research. IFE was founded in 1988 in Paris, France as a not-for-profit educational institute, a status that IFE maintains today. IFE is rooted in Europe, is very familiar with US universities, and is well-connected in the places it operates. IFE is known for its vision of study abroad involving experience, research, language learning and inter-cultural training. IFE has gained considerable experience and know-how working with US colleges and universities for effective study abroad programming. IFE devotes its efforts to operating and developing the Field Study and Internship Programs. Since the original Paris program, IFE has launched Field Study and Internship programs in Strasbourg (since 2008), Brussels (2012-2024), Asturias (since 2018), Andalucia (2020), and Marseille (launching in 2025). IFE is now a web of two European not-for-profit organizations with central coordination in Paris, France and Gijón, Spain.
