About Image Makers Association Australia

We represent Australian professional and emerging photographers through education, advocacy, and industry connections. We support members in disputes over image misuse, promote their rights, and celebrate their work. As an inclusive association, we value all members equally and are recognised by the Australian Copyright Council as the voice for professional photographers in Australia. We work on behalf of our members to enhance the business landscape for the photography profession, fostering confidence in the value of photography and ensuring it remains a sustainable career path for the future. Our members include commercial photographers working in diverse fields such as portraiture, editorial, architecture, food, advertising, corporate, lifestyle, travel, social media content, still life, studio work, and more. In today’s evolving market, many photographers work across multiple areas, and the lines between these specialisations often blur. It’s crucial for photographers to understand how to manage a variety of client types and navigate different licensing agreements as needed. Our role is to support members so that they each can confidently establish and maintain viable businesses that thrive in a competitive market.
