About In Plain Sight

In Plain Sight (2016–2019) was a mission-driven social innovation venture focused on improving mental health support for individuals living with acute psychiatric conditions such as schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. The project began at Harvard University as CrimsonMINDS, a student-project promoting peer-driven mental health support across campus communities. In 2018, the initiative evolved to address a broader and more critical gap: the lack of accessible, stigma-free, community-based support for those with severe mental illness. We prototyped a hybrid model of online and offline peer support networks, with virtual support groups complemented by in-person partnerships. The goal was to build a scalable, compassionate, and accessible ecosystem for those often underserved by traditional care systems. Key milestones: - Designed and tested virtual peer-support group prototypes with input from clinicians, caregivers, and patient advocates. - Engaged stakeholders across health, technology, and community sectors to co-create a user-centric support framework. - Recognized as a Social Innovation Fellow by the StartingBloc Institute (2019) for the venture’s potential to drive systemic change in mental health.
