The Inclusive Philanthropy Institute (IPI) was born out of both lived experience and professional observation. Our team has seen firsthand how, even with the best of intentions, our field often fails to address —and sometimes even reinforces — the very inequities that philanthropy claims to solve. 2020 prompted many institutions and organizations to examine how their fundraising strategies may have been perpetuating the very inequities they sought to dismantle. These are the same strategies deeply embedded in the fundraising sector - ones that uphold white saviorism, perpetuate racial indifference, and silence the difficult but necessary conversations about how wealth in this country has been built on colonization, slavery, economic segregation, and calculated resistance to Black and Brown progress. Despite this moment of awareness, then-to-now - there remains an overwhelming pull toward maintaining the status quo. But if we are to challenge the status quo truly, the future of fundraising must be anti-racist. IPI was founded to disrupt the status quo. We center equity, confront bias in fundraising practice, and build transformational strategies that move beyond inclusion toward systemic change. IPI is also a platform that equips fundraisers, advancement professionals, and institutional leaders with the tools and frameworks needed to champion anti-racist approaches in their fundraising work. At its core, IPI is about reimagining what’s possible when we lead with justice.
