About Indigo Arts Alliance
Indigo Arts Alliance (IAA) is a Portland, Maine-based, Black-led arts incubator dedicated to advancing Black and Brown thought-leadership, vision, and creative practice. Celebrating its 5th anniversary, IAA proudly reflects on its significant impact, having supported 66 artists in residence from 21 countries through its Mentorship Residency and David C. Driskell Fellowship programs. Over the past five years, IAA has collaborated with over 30 cultural organizations and educational institutions, hosting 191 public programs that foster creativity, dialogue, and community engagement. As an organization of social practice artists, scholars, and activists, IAA seeks to strengthen our multiracial democracy by cultivating and celebrating art as a vital resource for healthy communities. We connect global and local Black and Brown artists, provide an affirming environment for artistic creation across disciplines, and promote public engagement through participatory events that bring crucial social justice, culture, and community issues into conversation. As the only Black-led, established arts incubator in northern New England, IAA fills a critically important gap in representation and continues to be a dynamic hub for creativity, collaboration, and social justice in the arts, both in Maine and beyond.
