Characterizing the chemical structure and determining the size of molecules or particles in solution is essential in many industrial and academic applications. Optical spectroscopy is widely employed for chemical characterization, because it is easy to use and cost-effective. However, optical spectroscopy completely lacks size sensitivity, limiting its applicability and use when size matters. We have invented, validated and patented a new technology, Optical-DOSY, which adds size sensitivity to optical spectroscopy, in an affordable and accessible way. InspectT, an UvA's spin-off, developes and produces low-cost flow cells that fit in any existing spectrometer so that it can be used to perform Optical-DOSY, enabling not only to measure chemical structure but also to determine molecular or particle size.
