About Inspirate Creative Consulting and Development

Inspirate Creative is me - Jessica Wu. I am a 20+ year professional of the theatre-arts, having enjoyed a successful career as a performer, writer, composer, dramaturg, director, producer, artistic director, and now-consultant. In service of other institutions, I’ve worked extensively with early to mid-career as well as established creatives to help usher new creative works from inception to delivery and through all stages of development in-between. I’ve been around the block working with other directors and new-works development professionals and, unfortunately, an unproductive practice I’ve seen nearly across-the-board is development with an outside agenda and not-in-service of the primary creative’s vision. This can take the form of a director trying to shape a script in their own creative vision regardless of the writer’s intentions, to a manager insisting an actor change their ‘look’ to conform to industry norms, and all points between. Every artist is unique therefore every artist can't help but have a definitive voice. My coaching objective is to be an advocate and amplifier for that voice, without ulterior motive or ego. No matter the creative medium, the client’s story and how they tell it has no choice but to be unique. The goal of Inspirate Creative - my goal - is to act as a guide to the artist so their own behavior and creative practice is in service, to their singular brand of storytelling. My primary clients are individuals in the entertainment industry - writers, directors, choreographers, actors, composers - whose work is usually based in solo creativity. But, I've also helped artists launch their own small businesses, mentored arts companies through transitional phases of growth, and counseled teams of creatives through collaborative projects.
