Instar Ecology was established by Pete Sibley in 2018 to provide a freshwater ecology service based on 30 years of personal experience as a technical specialist in his field. Services include: Surveys: Instar can undertake a range of aquatic surveys to Water Framework Directive (WFD) and Defra common standards monitoring (CSM) criteria and standards. Freshwater macroinvertebrates: Fulfil monitoring requirements for the collection and analysis of macroinvertebrate samples to prescribed levels of identification. Aquatic macrophytes: Surveys of rivers, lakes and saltmarsh habitats to provide species assessments for eutrophication and community assessments. Freshwater algae: Collection and microscopic identification of algal samples, including nuisance and blue-green algae (cyanobacteria) blooms. Crayfish & invasive species: Licenced surveyor for white-clawed crayfish using a variety of techniques. Experienced in the identification of non-native species of aquatic plants and animals. Training: Experienced trainer and mentor in aquatic survey techniques and the use of biology data in water quality assessments. Quality assurance and instruction in macrophyte surveys and crayfish and other macroinvertebrate monitoring and identification. Habitat assessments: Accredited in River Habitat Survey and experience in undertaking walkovers for a range of purposes including fisheries and water quality investigations. Data analysis & reporting: Expertise in the handling and interpretation of environmental data for WFD investigations and assessments, pollution surveys, statements of witness, drought permit monitoring reports, water resource management plans, eel management plans, fisheries assessments and general reports for ecological quality monitoring purposes.
