About Institut d'Assistència Sanitaria
The Institut d'Assistència Sanitaria is a public part of the comprehensive public health system (SISCAT) of the Generalitat of Catalonia, through consultation with the Department of Health and Department of Social Welfare and Family. The IAS has a workforce of over 1,500 employees and manages an annual budget of 100 million euros. The task of professionals focuses on people and their health care is provided integrally with continuity and coordination between different levels of care in the territory: primary, hospital, mental health, social health and social development. The IAS has an agreement of collaboration with universities, schools and research institutions in Catalonia and is accredited as a teaching unit for the training of resident physicians (MIR psychiatry) resident psychologists (PIR) , psychiatric nurses, midwives and family doctors in hospital rotation. The IAS provides the whole Girona Health Region (about 845,900 inhabitants) all mental health services (except in the health sector of Alt Maresme) and certain health and social services, and social support and diagnosis. It offers health and social services at the counties of Gironès, la Selva and the Pla de l'Estany (about 300,000 inhabitants) and manages the Hospital of Santa Caterina (specialized care) for the part of Girona and the inner la Selva (about 144,000 inhabitants). The IAS manages the Basic Health Units of Anglès, Breda-Hostalric and Cassà de la Selva (about 60,000 inhabitants).
