About Institute for Information Literacy at Purdue (IILP)

The perils of the current information environment are coming to the fore as stories abound about how the uninformed may flounder or, worse yet, be victimized at the hands of rouge actors providing misinformation intended to confuse, disempower, or corrupt. Misleading news items and false analyses have led people to believe and spread conspiracy theories ultimately designed to undermine democracy, posing threats to our society. Information literacy is the knowledge, skills, and values that people draw on to traverse the challenges of today’s information environment. The Institute for Information Literacy at Purdue brings together researchers, educators, and other stakeholders to investigate information literacy challenges, such as misinformation or fake news, for the purpose of developing new information literacy models for navigating the perilous world of information. To do this, the Institute will form a community of information literacy researchers whose work will inform new information literacy models that enable people to successfully navigate today’s information environment.
