INFORMM is Universiti Sains Malaysia's first research institute that aims to perform cluster-based research focusing on Malaysia's priority areas in molecular medicine. While fundamental research is encouraged to promote new discoveries, the institute is set to perform enabling research that combines fundamental and applied research with cutting edge technologies to develop biomedical products and devices that will revolutionize the nation's health care services and industries. INFORMM will adopt the closed cycle concept and integrates research, development and commercialization in one entity. This is to ensure a continuous flow of products and innovative therapies that would create an impact on the Malaysian society. INFORMM will also acquire and provide technology transfer and training of biomedical scientists and members of the industry to meet the needs of the nation.
