About Institute for Sport and Social Justice (The Institute)
We believe sport is a universal language that unites people across borders, fostering understanding and cooperation. We envision a world where the transformative power of sport serves as a catalyst for positive change, and, through dynamic educational delivery, knowledge creation, and community building, we can empower individuals to be leaders of change for their communities and the world at large. Founded by civil rights icon and activist Dr. Richard Lapchick, the Institute has been an innovator in collegiate and professional sport organizations since its inception in 1985, and specializes in addressing the needs of high-profile groups. The Institute delivers training, technical assistance, research, and policy development focused on leadership, equity, and social justice. Inspired by Dr. Lapchick’s life and work, we seek to “stand up for justice and not block its path.” Huddle Up (HU) is the Institute for Sport & Social Justice’s (Institute) umbrella training program, addressing a wide range of issues, including gender equity and violence (sexual assault, sexual harassment, gender construction, language), the full spectrum of diversity, equity, inclusion, & belonging (DEIB), and leadership development.
