What is The Institute of Supply Teachers (IoST)? The Institute of Supply Teachers (IoST) is a free collaborative network specifically designed for Supply Teachers. The IoST supports a voice, rights, and very importantly, the professional development of Supply Teachers. Each Supply Teacher signed up to IoST will have access to free, online Continuing Professional Development (CPD) training through the Teacher Learning Camp (TLC) portal. The IoST will also provide opportunities for Supply Teachers to access products and services at discounted prices. Why was The Institute of Supply Teachers created? The IoST was established to provide supply teachers with a ‘best-in-class’ support network. The IoST will maintain and enhance satisfaction for those working in the supply sector and underpin development through access to supply teacher CPD via the Teacher Learning Camp. Supply is used in almost every school, supporting when permanent teaching staff are absent through illness, CPD attendance, or taking on long-term contracts to fill teaching vacancies. With 44% of all teachers hoping to leave the profession in the next five years, high-quality Supply Teachers will be essential to maintain quality education standards. Being on supply can be challenging, experiencing the same classroom tests their permanent teacher counterparts do: challenging behaviour, complex special needs, breadth of ability, and understanding in the class. Regular and relevant CPD is needed to meet the changing needs of the classroom. IoST offers free online CPD to supply teachers with relevant topics to help teach effectively.
